Working with Purpose
Working to solve some of the world’s biggest challenges.
GE is a “We Company,” not a “Me Company.” GE is investing in strategic sectors for the future to create value for our shareholders and society, with focus on infrastructure, healthcare and energy. We innovate to provide practical solutions to sustainable development challenges, and we tailor these solutions to local needs. Ecomagination and healthymagination are helping our customers improve their operational performance and we have extended GE’s commitments to improve the sustainability of our operations and those of our suppliers.
What is GE’s Environmental Health & Safety Program?
GE Oil & Gas is committed to achieving environmental excellence and protecting the health and safety of our employees wherever we operate. This means complying with all applicable environment, health and safety (EHS) legal requirements and other adopted industry standards, regardless of how such requirements might be enforced.
As a testimony to our performance, we have been acknowledged with more than 14 awards from our customers and industry at our Oil & Gas sites. EHS standards and practices represent a competitive advantage with existing and prospective customers. Our business puts protection of people and the environment before output (i.e., production deadlines, project schedule). The actions of our managers and leadership team show that EHS is a core value.
Only through a relentless commitment to EHS are we able to fulfill the purpose of fueling the future and bringing energy to world while protecting our people, our customers, and our business.

How do we handle community affairs?
The GE family partners with organizations to help solve some of today’s biggest challenges in health, education and community-building. GE is also proud to encourage and support employee and retiree volunteerism throughout its global population. Our goal is to support volunteer opportunities that improve the communities we serve and help GE employees to become leaders. GE’s focus on volunteerism dates back to 1981, and further evolved in 2005 when the GE Volunteers organization was more strategically positioned to encourage broader participation and to support a more significant contribution to our communities.
Since 2005, employees and retirees have given more than 10 million hours of their time on more than 37,000 projects spanning 60 countries. Employees volunteered for a total of 1.2 million hours in 2013; and we hope to maintain at least 1 million volunteer hours in 2014. GE’s local Volunteer Councils directed more than $800,000 in grants to community organizations in over 30 countries. These grants helped positively impact the lives of some 1 million people by funding food pantries, shelters, social service organizations and afterschool programs, among other initiatives.
GE works on things that matter, and our volunteer work outlined here would not be possible without the commitment of our more than 300,000 global employees who come to work each day with a shared belief that things can be made better—it’s a way of thinking about the work we do and the technology we make for our customers and partners, and for the communities in which we all work and live.
Together, we are working to make the world work better.

Protecting & promoting the health of our employees
GE Oil & Gas is committed to protecting the health and wellbeing of employees and contractors working at our facilities as well as customer locations. Global Health Services (GHS) team creates and maintains programs to promote employee wellness and resolve business-related medical issues.
All GE employees, new hire candidates, and contractors are required to be physically and psychologically capable of performing the essential functions of their job.
Fit For Duty
As part of GE Oil & Gas’ Fit for Duty Policy—currently being implemented around the globe—certain employee groups are required to undergo periodic medical exams and testing to fulfill Fit for Duty compliance requirements, as defined by law and their specific roles. The policy also drives compliance with specific country employment or immigration mandates.
Our deployment process includes automatically triggered email communications to both traveler and manager, containing instructions and precautions based on the travel destinations. Once abroad, travelers who have a health, security, legal, or emergency issue can contact International SOS (ISOS), available worldwide 24/7, for resolution. Our mandatory ZERO Malaria Policy and prevention program is focused on protecting employees and contractors who are traveling to malaria-endemic locations.
GE Oil & Gas is focused on building a culture of health that focuses on progress, not perfection. With a strong commitment to implementing the GE-wide HealthAhead program, we are getting on the road to healthier living.
