Mark™ VIe and MarkVIeS systems — a cost-effective solution for control and protection perfect for new units and upgrades.
The Mark™ VIe control system is a flexible platform used in multiple applications. It features high-speed, networked input/output (I/O) for simplex, dual, and triple redundant systems. Industry-standard Ethernet communications are used for I/O, controllers, and supervisory interface to operator and maintenance stations, as well as third-party systems.
The Mark VIeS Safety control is a stand-alone SIL3 safety control system for safety-critical applications that conform to IEC®-61508. The panels take up the same or less space than previous generations and have a highly flexible architecture consisting of multiple processors, network switches and I/O packs that can be mixed and matched in virtually any combination. Simplex, Dual and triple redundancy (TMR) options are available, with online repair and hot-swap capabilities to improve mean time to repair and overall system availability. The triple-redundant system runs on voted value of logical data and median value of analog data – overriding a failed component in any mode with diagnostics identifying differences across the three sections.
The I/O can be situated locally, remotely or a combination of both. Remote applications are supported with cat. 5 or fiber and digitized sensor signals that reduce noise, eliminate ground faults, reduce susceptibility to lightning, and reduce long-term maintenance costs. The I/O is accurate over its entire operating range from -30 to +65°C and dissipates heat, so it’s very conducive to remote applications.

Mark™ VIe supports different /O types ranging from conventional analog 4-20mA, HART analog input/output, RTDs, Thermocouples, discrete inputs/outputs to turbine specific like speed, flame, vibration, LVDT and servos. The system also supports digital industrial buses like Profibus, CANOpen and Fieldbus Foundation. It provides quality, time-coherent data (Mark™ VIe/VIeS are NTP client) in the controllers and at the plant level for effectively managing control system equipment. Alarms are natively time-stamped in the controller and the alarms management system provides ISA 18.2 recommended features.
The ControlST™ software suite, which contains the ToolboxST™ toolset, is used with Mark™ VIe and MarkVIeS controls and related systems for programming, configuration, high speed trending (10ms), and analysing diagnostics. The common software streamlines operating and maintenance procedures and delivers better data quality and correlations for debugging and diagnostics. ToolboxST features a SW library of validated blocks usable in the FBD (functional block diagram) logic ranging from general purpose to complex gas or steam turbine and DCS applications.
For turbo compressor applications this enables integrated turbine and compressor controls which effectively cut spare-parts, software and tool requirements in half. WorkstationST package, part of the ControlST suite, features logging as well as communication features supporting Modbus (master and slave), OPC DA/AE/UA and seamless Cimplicity (GE SCADA) integration.
Mark™ VIe modular design makes it the perfect for flexible legacy control systems revamping. Two options are provided: full panels replacement with new panels fitting the same volume of Mark II, IV and V (Mark™ VIe FIT II, IV, V) or dedicated “brain transplant” for existing Mark V (SMX, TMR and LM) and SUVIMAC II and II+ systems where only the control cores are replaced while the I/O terminal boards and above all the field terminations are left unchanged. This allows minimizing the downtime and the chances of complex re-wiring activities.
