The Wireline Skate reduces tool friction when entering a well. In order to achieve this, the OD of the wireline skate must be slightly larger than that of the downhole tool in question. This difference in tool OD makes it possible to keep the body of the downhole tool off of the tubing or casing wall. The only thing left in contact with the tubing or casing will be the wheels of the Skate. This reduction in friction allows the tool to fall deeper into a well with a large deviation angle. This may also reduce, or in some cases eliminate, the need for mechanical assistance to reach the desired depth in a well.
GE offers skates in sizes ranging from 1-5/8” (41.3mm) to 3-3/4” (95.3mm) diameter.
