API 617 Centrifugal Compressor - Overhung

Overhung compressors are used mainly for boosting in petrochemical and pipeline applications or for recycle in polypropylene and polyethylene plants.

Design Philosophy

The single-stage overhung configuration ensures simplicity and ease of maintenance. Almost all gases can be handled with appropriate construction materials and seal systems.

Features like three-piece casing construction, horizontally split bearing housing, and our exclusive impeller balance ring are examples of how this compressor is designed from the ground up to provide maximum reliability and serviceability. These compressors offer a choice of models and seal options, as well as the design flexibility and optional equipment to conform to your specifications. Accessory packages include a variety of drivers, sound attenuation, a lubrication console and advanced control functions.

Applications

The blower compressor is a low-pressure, single-stage overhung design typically used when a tough process gas application requires a relatively high flow of gas at a moderate differential pressure. It features a compact, efficient design and the ability to handle a wide range of applications.

Testing Capabilities

The units can be string or full-load tested in our shop, with both ASME PTC 10 type I or type II criteria, thus concentrating the responsibility for the complete train in the hands of a single source supplier.

Internal test rigs with electric motor drivers and steam turbines are available for standard shop tests and open loop air performance tests.

External test rigs with special facilities for string and full load tests of complete turbocompression trains ensure full compliance with customer-specific requirements.

Our Virtual Witness System allows customers to monitor tests remotely and securely via the Internet.

In addition to open-loop air and closed-loop gas options, and full-load, full-pressure mechanical testing, we offer a new high speed balancing system.
