ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES & SERVICES AUTUMN 2007

3 new PipeView modules now available

As part of our commitment to offering more advanced pipeline integrity management tools, GE's PII Pipeline Solutions business has just launched updated versions of PipeView™ Integrity, SheetGen and Facility for ArcGIS.

PVi 4.1

The latest evolution of PII's PipeView Integrity software suite is designed to assist transmission pipeline operators and local distribution companies in assessing and managing the integrity of their pipelines. The software provides customers with a single, integrated environment that includes several important integrity tools: Data Alignment Manager, Feature Assessment, Risk Assessment, and Integrity Planning.

In response to customer requests, PVi 4.1 enhancements include:

SheetGen

PII's SheetGen software application automatically generates detailed alignment sheets directly from relational databases and geographic information systems. The product provides up-to-date construction-quality drawings of a pipeline system for field use and analysis.

Along with other enhancements, a key component of the latest software release provides support of multi-line sheets. Users are now able to specify which bands in a band template will utilize multiple lines. This data is then automatically displayed and formatted for the number of lines that are available for each individual sheet.

"GE understands that customers buy software based on today's functionality, but also the promise of future improvements,” said Manuel Terranova, General Manager of Integrity Services for PII Pipeline Solutions. “These enhanced applications demonstrate our commitment to regularly scheduled product updates that reflect additional, customer-requested features and improvements.”

Facility for ArcGIS

Version 4.0 of PipeView™ Facility for ArcGIS offers increased performance and usability, and is a major development of this already advanced data management tool.

The new software allows operators to maintain their pipeline data in the ArcGIS Pipeline Data Model (APDM). This platform is an industry model that uses ESRI’s geodatabase technology. PII’s tool, an extension of ArcGIS, allows users to create, edit and maintain all of their pipeline centerline, facility and integrity data.

For improved performance, version 4.0 employs several strategies to significantly enhance centerline editing, including:

Support of route events for online points: The pipeline operator’s APDM can be configured to use both features and events based on their intended use and performance objectives.
Deferred processing of the online location of offline features: Allows the user to modify the centerline quickly and batch process the online location calculations.

PipeView Facility for ArcGIS 4.0 also has a new look and feel to improve the user experience and reduce the level of GIS knowledge required by the user. This release includes a revamped interface with a new toolbar structure that presents the most relevant tools prominently and in a manner that is more consistent with pipeline operations. Existing tools have also been improved, making it easier for users to add points and linear features.

“This launch underscores our commitment to continuously improve our integrity software and meet our clients’ stringent accuracy requirements,” said Manuel Terranova, General Manager of Integrity Services for PII Pipeline Solutions.

GE’s PipeView Facility for ArcGIS 4.0 supports ArcGIS 9.2 and has been certified for compatibility with Oracle 10g, Oracle Spatial and SQL Server 2005 – the latest technology platforms supported by ESRI. Version 4.0 also provides compatibility beyond ESRI technologies with certified support for spatial data interoperability standards: OGC, ISO, ST_Geometry, and SDO_Geometry Storage. These additions mean the enterprise facility geodatabase can integrate and participate in a disparate GIS/IT framework. As a result, pipeline operators can now take advantage of mainstream technologies to orchestrate interdepartmental data exchange and automated business processes/workflows.
